Fabrication services
Available to the public and businesses - all you need is your digital file
Choose from our standard pricing options for fabrication services in our online shop or alternatively please complete the request for quotation form below
The following overarching caveats apply to this service:
We use this equipment for our own product fabrication so from time to time this service may be unavailable for makers to request jobs.
We will only accept files which are your own intellectual property and which are in line with the principles of our business. We are offering this service to help makers create prototypes because we want to foster innovation. We don’t want to create unnecessary waste. Any files which appear to be of adult content or otherwise illegal will be summarily rejected.
We reserve the right to refuse to accept jobs which do not meet these criteria above. Jobs also need to meet the following technical requirements for each item of equipment, please see below for detail against each item of equipment.
Complete the form on this page to request a fabrication quotation.
Completed jobs can be picked up at the Bored Owl warehouse on request or we can deliver via Australia Post. Delivery cost will be included in quotation.
Technical Requirements for the Digital Files:
Bambu X1 Carbon 3D Printers:
The 3D Model MUST be formatted as an STL file.
Your single model must fit on a single printer bed (that is 256 x 256 x 256 mm). If you have multiple model parts which extend the design beyond a single print bed then you’d need to pay for multiple print jobs and it will take longer because it increases print time for every plate used.
Wall thickness must be 0.4mm or greater.
We will use 15% infill for the inner sections of the model.
If there are overhangs or features that require overhangs, then we will include support material automatically. We do not remove support material once finished, that's up to you!
We use PLA for this service. We reserve the right to select colour as it’s based on what we have available from our own print jobs but if we have multiple colours available we will allow colour choice before placing your order.
This service is non-refundable. If your design contains errors or omissions, then they will be committed to fabrication and are subject to the constraints of 3D Printing.
Formlabs Form4 Resin 3D Printer
Please complete the request for quotation form if you require resin 3D printing.
Be aware resin printing is much more expensive than PLA 3D printing so you may want to use our Bambu lab 3D printing service for early stage models until you’re sure you’ve got your design sorted for resin printing. Resin printing requires part washing in isopropyl alcohol so the time for this service is also included in the cost quoted for resin printing. We do not cure resin prints unless its requested specifically and if it is suitable for the resin used for printing. Curing resin prints would be added to the quotation if its required.
The 3D Model MUST be formatted as an STL file.
Your single model must fit on a single printer bed (that is 200 × 125 × 210 mm). If you have multiple model parts which extend the design beyond a single print bed then you’d need to pay for multiple print jobs and it will take longer because it increases print time for every plate used.
Wall thickness must be 0.4mm or greater.
If there are overhangs or features that require overhangs, then we will include support material automatically. We do not remove support material once finished, that's up to you!
We use whatever resin we have available for this service. Usually clear or grey resin is used for prototyping.
This service is non-refundable. If your design contains errors or omissions, then they will be committed to fabrication and are subject to the constraints of 3D Printing.
